Hardy Zane Saltwater No2

As part of my salt-water rig that is being put together now, I managed to get this Zane reel at a very good price. One of the current Hardy reels it bucks my trend of getting older rods and reels. This salt-water rod and reel are going to be brand-spanking-new and of the highest spec available. The Zane reel features an aviation-spec carbon brake pad that offers the best possible braking when needed. The components are rust resistant and the delicate bits are well sealed. I really appreciate the line capacity. I'll be loading it with 30lb backing and the Scientific Anglers - Mastery Textured Series Saltwater Clear Tip WF-9-F/S line mentioned in the post below.
  • Incredible strength to weight ratio
  • Open drag system allows for easy cleaning
  • Woven Avcarb brake pads
  • Low start up inertia and instant pick-up
  • Large arbor design gives huge backing capacity
  • Ergonomically-designed handle
  • Aerospace grade aluminium construction
  • Suitable for saltwater use

The manufacturer's price for the No2 reel is £379. Difficult to get a new one for under £320 even on eBay.

This Zane range of reels may eventually be replaced by the Hardy Fortuna X series, only just now available in the UK at the time of writing. They have been available in America for a little while in four sizes to suit line weights 8 through 14, Fortuna reels cost $595-$845. In the UK, only a few outlets have them at about £599 for the No1 up to £749 for the No4. So the Zane still remains a very good and reasonably priced salt-water reel. Perhaps the prices of the Fortuna X reels will keep the Zane reels in production for a while to come.
